Lakes & Dales 2: Lake District

Heading out along the A66, past Penrith to Keswick, we wound our way south and west alongside Derwent Water, over the Honister Pass; to Buttermere (a quick hot chocolate) and Crummock Water. Followed by a curvy meander to the seaside at Seascale.

Whilst today was by no means dry, the few sunny spells and high winds ensured we stayed dry for the most part. Compared to the challenge of yesterday, we were back enjoying every second in the saddle!!

On to the Hardknott and Wrynose passes, the latter is famed as the UK’s steepest Road...they’re not lying! Perhaps the wettest point of the day, we quickly decided this made the scenery and riding that more dramatic.

We then turned south past Coniston Water. Our final leg passed up the east side of Lake Windemere, pausing for a sandwich and coffee. Then onto the faster curved roads around Ullswater, Pooley Bridge and then back along the Eden Valley.
