to Laon, France

225 miles though northern France, to our last night on the continent. We discovered Laon three years ago and the hilltop Citadel seemed the perfect setting for our last night away!

Today was all about making progress. Pretty grey and showery whilst we packed away, we started out leaving the Vosges during a pretty dramatic thunder storm; waterproofs on and buckling down.

Our route was a mixture of dual carriageway sections as well as flat arable landscapes...one section of single carriageway was 41 kilometres; must have been built by the Romans, upon a landscape with nothing, save the occasional tree.

One highlight was the wasp that snuck its way into PP’s T-shirt and decided to go on the rampage...!?!

We arrived in Laon just before 14h00; plenty of time to grab a quick drink, pitch tents, before heading into the old town for an early evening meal, to reminisce over the past three weeks and 5,000 miles! Bikes in need of good servicing upon our return!
